The Modern Classical Language department offers work in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Ancient Greek, Biblical Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, and Spanish designed to give students the fundamentals of each language and to introduce them to the culture and literature of the people whose language is being studied. A well-equipped foreign language laboratory offers opportunities for practice in comprehension and speaking. The Dr. Anna Lou Blair Language Media Room offers satellite feed and computer interconnections abroad. Laboratory practice is required of all students in modern language courses 101,102 and 201.
The Bachelor of Arts degree requires 12 hours in one language selected from courses within the Department of Modern and Classical Languages numbered 101 through 205, and 320 or above. The language selected must not be the student’s native language. Consult with the Department of Modern and Classical Languages regarding any exceptions or substitutions.
Native speakers of non-English languages should consult with the department prior to enrolling in courses.
How can I study Spanish at Missouri State University?
Although anyone can enroll in basic Spanish courses at Missouri State, there are several formal study tracks available for students with a serious interest in integrating Spanish with their career objectives. The Missouri State Department of Modern and Classical Languages offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science majors and minors in Spanish, including Bachelor of Science in Education degrees in conjunction with the College of Education.
